"Radio Presenter" jailed for defilement

Sunyani, Nov. 30 GNA - A circuit court at Fiapre, near Sunyani, has sentenced a 22 year-old self-styled radio presenter to a seven year's imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 12 year-old class six pupil at Yamfo in the Tano North District of Brong Ahafo. Stephen Agyenim Boateng pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Akwesi Amoako, prosecuting, told the court presided by Mr Benjamin Osei that Boateng was a self-styled radio presenter at Two Brothers Information Centre at Yamfo and lived in the same vicinity with the victim. He said on October 20, 2008 at about 2000 hours Boateng sent the girl to buy him a candle and matches but when she returned he invited her into his room, pushed her onto his bed and gagged her with his shirt to prevent her from shouting.

The Prosecutor said Boateng then stripped the girl naked and sexually abused her after which, he sent her out and warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anybody or else she would die. DSP Amoako said the victim became sick three weeks later and when questioned by the mother she confessed and mentioned Agyenim. He said a report was made to the Police and the victim was issued with a medical form to attend hospital and the Doctor's report confirmed that the girl had been defiled. Boateng was subsequently arrested.
