Two people have died following heavy rains in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, 10 May 2018.

The deceased was a grandmother, Mary Aduse-Poku, 74; and her eight-year-old grandson, Chris Adu Sarkodie, who lived at Kwadaso Proper in the Kwadaso municipality.

Mr Frank Duodu, National Disaster Management Board (NADMO) Director in the Ashanti Region, told Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah that a wall, which divides two houses, collapsed during the heavy downpour and affected the room of the grandmother and her son, leading to their death.

He said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, awaiting an autopsy.

The rains also displaced several dozen residents and destroyed property estimated at thousands of Ghana cedis.

Some of the areas affected by the floods include Aboabo Pelele, Atafoa, Dechemso, Ohwim, Amanfrom and Asuofua, among others.

Officials of NADMO are currently at the scene assessing the situation.
