Rainstorm destroys property at Wenchi

Wenchi (B/A) March 22, GNA - A rainstorm that hit Wenchi at the weekend ripped the roofs of six buildings including the offices of the district branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union and the District Magistrate Court.

Alhaji Baba Musah, Secretary of the union, told the Ghana News Agency that receipt books, files and furniture were destroyed. He said Mama Akosua Dagarti, a 40-year old kenkey seller at the lorry station, was injured and was treated and discharged at the Methodist Hospital.

"The Union will have to spend about 50 million cedis to re-roof our building and other," he said.

Alhaji Baba Musah called on sister unions, the National Disaster Management Organization and individuals to assist the union. Mr Justice Eric Nyavor in charge of the District Court said the rain destroyed files and books.

He said it would take them some time for the court to sit and called on the District Assembly to expedite action on rehabilitating the building.
