A Wa-based journalist with Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s Pupeli FM, was on Wednesday afternoon subjected to severe beatings by angry youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Wa Municipal Assembly premises.
Ibrahim Abubakar who had gone to the assembly following reports some NPP youth activists stormed the assembly to forcefully takeover as the new revenue collectors due to a change in government, was subjected to slaps over claims he had taken shots of their action.
“One of them spotted me taking images and called me. When I got closer he demanded I hand over my mobile phone to him but when I refused, he started slapping so I had no option but give him the mobile phone. He deleted the three images I had taken and afterwards they all pounced on me and started beating me up”, he told mynewsgh.com, his ordeal.
He disclosed that the youth are calling for the sack of all revenue collectors as well some drivers who were employed under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC), indicating that it is their government which is now in power and therefore transition must also take place.
Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Kwadwo Boapea Otchere has promised to step up security within the municipality avert any clashes between the party foot soldiers and the revenue collectors.
