Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo has commended the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of NPP (TESCON) and the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of NDC groups of the University of Ghana campus for actively taking part in the political discourse of the country.

The Member of Parliament was speaking at a public discussion between the two student political groups, organized by the Forum for Progressive Democrat (FPD) in collaboration with the Political Science Association of the University, on Thursday 22nd February in the Kofi Drah Conference room.

“Two strong political parties’ representatives in the youth front, agreeing to debate issues,” he said, noting that it was applause worthy and an initiative that should be encouraged.

He added that it was important to provide guidance to the students because “essentially, politics, in the end, is about service to ourselves, and that service must be devoid of the things that will encourage corruption and encourage the ills of politics,” he stated.

The MP advised that the youth be trained “to buy into the best quality lives as politicians.”

Camillus Sakzeessi, a social commentator, however, was disappointed in the way the students skewed the discussion towards party lines.

He said “my disappointment did not start today… because it is not about Ghana, it is all about NDC or NPP.”

This attitude, according to him, would yield no progress in the country.

The event was largely attended by student members of both the NDC and NPP. This is the maiden event of the FPD in its two months of existence.
