Rawlings Confers With Council Of State Members

Accra, Aug. 27, - President Jerry John Rawlings today received members of the Council of State at the Castle, Osu and discussed with them economic, social and political issues. Setting the ball rolling, Vice President John Atta Mills said the government attaches importance to such interactions because the Executive gets the opportunity to listen to words of wisdom. Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, Chairman of the Council which is an advisory body, said the government had done its best to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians. A lot of development projects are going on in several parts of the country and the President had done a lot to attract investors following his trips abroad. Alhaji Bawumia said the zeal with which President Rawlings tackles his state functions gives members of the Council the encouragement to undertake their duties with vigour despite the limited resources. ''But despite these positive developments, much more remains to be done to stabilize our democracy,'' he said.
