Retired military officer and a key member of the 1979 June 4th Uprising, Major Boakye Gyan, claims there is the possibility that former President Jerry John Rawlings is harboring the intention of staging another coup in Ghana.
According to him, some of the statements Jerry Rawlings made at the 32nd commemoration of the June 4 Uprising at the rally held in Kumasi on Saturday, are circumstantial evidence that he is harboring the intention of initiating a possible coup d’état and has therefore asked the ruling NDC government to be wary of him (Rawlings).
The former President, speaking at the 32nd commemoration of the June 4 uprising in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi stated that the NDC party needs a more dynamic leader who would seek justice, accountability and integrity.
According to him, he made a mistake by not identifying intelligent, brilliant and smart people to take over the reins of power from him, adding that the wrong people are back in power and made allusion to 'taking over' or 'cleaning up the government'.
Speaking in an interview during PeaceFM News@ Midday, the former ally to Ex-President Rawlings maintained that the posture of Jerry Rawlings and his constant attack on the government is an indication that he will want to repeat his 1981 illegal act.
According to him, Mr. Rawlings’ statement that they should take over government is treasonable, stressing that Rawlings can take over the NDC but to state that he will take over government sums up to a coup.
He stressed that it is about time Rawlings is held accountable for all “this nonsense he has been saying all over the place over the years”, adding that he is unperturbed if Rawlings and his wife goes through the right processes to win power but the idea of trying to take over something by force will not be tolerated any more.
