Former President Rawlings is due in the Ashanti Region tomorrow, Tuesday, December 10, to meet all 36 constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The special meeting takes place at Afidwase where he is expected to give a pep talk to delegates to the impending national congress.
The Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper says the trip forms part of the campaign push for his idol, Prof John Evans Atta Mills who became his vice following the controversial Swedru Declaration. The paper says an amount of ?200,000 has been released from the Mills campaign directorate to each constituency to enable the delegates to converge at Afidwase.
Unconfirmed reports say some of the chairmen rejected the ?200,000. The said meeting is a follow-up to the visit of Prof Mills to the region this year to canvass or support. During the October trip, the Mills team paid what is now known as knocking fee of ?150,000 to each constituency.
Observers see Mr. Rawlings? storming of the Ashanti Region as a desperate move to redeem votes feared lost to ?Galloping Mustang?, Dr Kwesi Botchwey.
