Rawlings: Mills was Ghana’s best Veep ever

Former President Jerry Rawlings has described the late President John Mills as the best vice president Ghana has ever had.

According to him, although he disapproved of the leadership style of the late professor, he (Mills) served his role excellently as the country’s number two gentleman under his tenure.

“He was a great vice president. In my view, he was the best vice president this country ever had. He was great gentleman and he delivered excellently,” the former military leader told Metro TV’s Frank Anator in an interview.

Meanwhile, the Mr Rawlings has said he will respect the decision of the late president’s family not to show up at his upcoming commemorative event.

The family took the decision following the ex-President’s recent comments that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have lost the 2012 presidential poll if it had presented then President Mills as its candidate.

The former president was also reported to have said that he didn't campaign for President John Mahama.

Mr Rawlings later said his comments had been twisted and that all he said was that credit should not be denied President John Mahama whom he said won the election on his own strength.
