Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has tasked executive members of the Assemblies of God Church to ensure sanity in the Christian fraternity.

He was addressing members of the church’s executive council who called on the former president to officially inform him about the death of Rev. Dr. Simon Bamalong Asore, a former council of state member during his regime.

Expressing his condolence, the former president wanted the church to do more in clearing the system of charlatans calling themselves prophets as the late reverend minister championed.

“He was a very calm and humble man. I remember him and his spectacles. My condolence to the church, wife, and children. This is indeed a big challenge for you. He fought a good fight those days I remember how he was actively involved in ensuring that there was sanity in the Christendom in Ghana. Now the baton has been handed to you behind”.

Rev. Dr. Simon Bamalong Asore was elected General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana in 1986, and served for 14 years before his retirement.

He was the second indigenous leader of the Church. The Assemblies of God church was said to have experienced tremendous growth under his leadership through nationwide evangelism.

He was a member of Council of State during former President J. J. Rawlings regime as well as the President of Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council.

He died on the 14th of November 2018 at the age of 75 years after a short illness.

He will be given a state burial at the forecourt of the parliament house on January 19.

The delegation was led by Rev. Dr. Harry Insaidoo recounts how resourceful the late Rev. Simon Asore was to the church and state at large.
