Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed confidence in government to deal with persons arrested in connection with the death of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama of the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN).

According to him, several persons have suffered same fate and will employ government to also look into such incidents as the country will he heading to a crash if it fails to crack the whip and deal with the perpetrators.

“I know how worried you are as to whether this party will be treated like many others in the past. Quite frankly I do not believe so, I do not think so.

I believe this issue will be dealt with appropriately but I am hoping as I said, they look into the other cases that have preceded this one.

Had we reacted appropriately as a government there is no doubt in mind this kind of brutal cruel behavior would not have gone on for long. This did not start today; it started some quite few years ago.

I think we all know where we will be heading this time round if we do not crack the whip. I am quite confident the government will do what is necessary”, he said.

He also commended the unit (5BN) in which the deceased soldier belonged for restraining themselves in a manner that is always not associated with them in such instances expressing hope that government will play its part.

“Let me use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the unit (5BN) for putting up with this kind of atrocity that they did not react in a manner that is always associated with them when things of this nature happen. I thank them for exercising so much restraint. I believe the government will play its role”, he added.
