Rawlings unmasked!

Twenty-nine year old Kyereme Djan, a younger brother of Major Kojo Boakye Djan (rtd), Spokesman and Second-in-command of the erstwhile Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) is alleged to have been executed on orders of ex-President J.J. Rawlings.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra last week to solicit forgiveness from Ghanaians for his role in the 31st December 1981 coup d?etat, Cpl Matthew Adabuga disclosed that Kyereme Djan?s execution was ordered by Flt-Lt Rawlings (rtd) on the basis that Kyereme was plotting to overthrow the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) government.

Kyereme, Mawuli Goka, Samuel Boamah Panyin, Braimah Kankani, WO Samuel Aforo and others were executed by firing squad in August 1986. Adabuga said he was also on the death list and it was by God?s grace that he escaped unscathed.

According to him, Rawlings deceived him and others into helping him stage the 31 December coup. The others- Braimah Issaka, Pharouk, Aliu Hamid, Baba Kankani, Halidu Gyiwah, Akadina and a host of others- were either subsequently killed on Rawlings? orders or driven out into exile.
