Aspiring national chairman of the governing NPP, Fred Amankwa Sarfo has promised to make the welfare of grassroots of the party his priority, if voted into office.
It’s been more than a year since the NPP took over power from, opposition NDC.
The party has already begun its reorganisation process with the adoption of some constitutional amendments in a recent Extraordinary Delegates' Conference in Kumasi.
The party has also begun the election process in preparation for new constituency and regional executives and national executives slated for June this year.
Speaking ahead of the crucial elections in June, the aspiring national chairman and lecturer at the University of Ghana, Fred Amankwa Sarfo indicated that party foot soldiers will feel appreciated under his tenure.
“Now that we won power, the members of the party themselves those who worked tirelessly to put us where we are today, they also need to be managed in such a way that they will benefit from the development of the country. So that is what am bringing on board, my focus is more on the people (grassroots) because we need to sustain the works that have been done already so apathy does not set in.
He added “every time we go to election from 1992, you realized that the numbers come down…so you need somebody who will prep people up so that they will not sit on the fence, they will come on board going into the next election with the same vim or even better than we did in the last election”.
He also assured that he will build an ultra-modern headquarters for the party, if elected into office as the national chairman.
“We have a party headquarters that I think it must change. We need to build an ultra-modern party headquarters that would really help us to be able to achieve our objective because sometimes it is overcrowded and it may not have all the things that I want to bring on board so we need a party headquarters”.
He, however, failed to disclose cost of the project when quizzed on it, “I don’t have the figures now, I haven’t put the cost now, but what I know is that if we put our mind to it and we want to achieve it we can achieve, it no matter how much it cost us”.
