Re-introduce Sanitary Inspectors - Committee Chairman

Elmina (C/R), July 16, GNA - The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology, Mr Albert Kwaku Obbin, on Saturday suggested the re-introduction of Sanitary Inspectors to enforce by-laws to ensure clean environment in the country. He also called for the institution of a Committee on Environment at the District level to help deal with sanitation issues.

Mr Obbin who is the MP for Prestea-Huni Valley made the call at the close of a two-day stakeholders workshop on "Integration of the Environment sector into the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development," at Elmina.

It was organised for 40 people including Members of the Parliamentary select Committee, researchers and managers of the Ministry.

Mr Obbin expressed the hope that the participants had acquired enough information to enhance the performance of departments under them since the public expected more from them.

Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, noted that the participants had a "very difficult task ahead" and urged them to work hard to achieve results.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, stressed the need for them to make an impact on the public.

He charged them as experts to adopt strategise and effective communication skills to achieve their objectives.

The workshop set up a three-member team to facilitate the effective integration of the environment in development plans.
