The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party [NPP], Kwame Baffoe is popularly known as Abronye DC has emphatically said voting against the proposed amendment of Article 55 (3) of the 1992 Constitution which will make local government elections partisan qualifies one to be an ‘animal’.

His comment comes after the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] urged its supporters to vote 'No' in the December referendum.

The referendum has become necessary because Article 55 is an entrenched provision of the Constitution and therefore can only be amended through a referendum.

Voting for the proposed amendment has been scheduled for December 17, but the NDC is against it.

At a press conference on Tuesday, NDC’s Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the local government system should remain non-partisan and that individuals should contest the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections on their own merit.

“We, therefore, decided to campaign for a 'NO' vote at the referendum and to urge all Ghanaians to vote 'NO' at the referendum,” he declared

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie' Friday, November 15, 2019, Abronye DC who was unhappy with the opposition’s stance linked the ‘YES' and 'NO’ referendum voting to human and animals.

“In this referendum election the ‘Yes’ stands for human and ‘No’ stands for goat. So it’s up to Ghanaians to decide,” he told host Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman.
