The Paramount Chief of Peki, His Royal Majesty, Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, has appealed to government to rehabilitate the Peki Government Hospital.
That, he said will help reduce the many loss of lives on the Eastern Corridor road.
Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII was addressing a grand durbar by the Chiefs and people of Gbi at the Gbidukor festival, on Saturday when he made the appeal.
According to him, the hospital is unable to perform some core functions particularly emergency cases due to the absence of a trauma/emergency centre at the facility.
“I take this opportunity to request the Government to consider serious rehabilitation and retooling of the Peki Government Hospital to enable it perform critical role that is required of it,” he appealed.
Festival
The Gbidukor festival signifies the reunification of the two traditional areas, Gbidzigbe (Hohoe) and Gbinyigbe (Peki), who were divided over 400 years ago during the Migration to their present land.
The festival is hosted on rotational basis between Peki and Hohoe, where the guest town moves in physical numbers to serve as guest to the hosting town.
This year’s Gbidukor festival, was celebrated on the theme: Promoting Health and Safety Standard – our shared Responsibility. It was aimed at raising funds to provide a Trauma/Emergency center for the Peki Government Hospital.
This year’s edition was attended by Government officials and some well-known chiefs from the region including the Paramount Chief of Bator Traditional Area, Tobgega Patamia Dzekley VII.
