Regent of Kadare appeals for dam and borehole

Kadare (U/E), Dec 3, GNA- The Regent of Kadare in the Bongo District, Mr Abdul-Rahman Asigre, has said his people are facing an acute water problem and appealed to the Bongo District Assembly and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for assistance.

Mr Asigre, who made the appeal during the fourth annual celebration of the traditional "Sisia" festival of the people of Kadare, said more than 100 cattle and other animals from Kadare, Kodorogo and Goo within the district die every year for lack of water.

He said because there is no dam in these communities the animals found it difficult to survive, especially during the dry season.

Mr Asigre said animals are also competing for water from the only borehole serving Kadare and appealed to the assembly to construct more boreholes for the area.

The Assemblyman for the area, Mr. Abubakari Akane, commended the youth for embarking on communal labour to construct a road ! linking Kadare to other communities to enable them to cart their foods tuffs to the nearest market centres.

An appeal for an education endowment fund for needy but brilliant students yielded over 3 million cedis.
