The Upper West Regional Minister, Shahanun Mogtari on Thursday ordered a Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Local FM station to stop a radio programme that featured the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alban Bagbin. The regional minister is reported to have threatened to use any means to get Bagbin, who had paid for the airtime, out of the studio, if the station did not end the programme.
Mr. Mogtari however told the Ghana News Agency that he only phoned in to correct a statement Bagbin had made, but was informed by the presenter that there was not enough time. According to him, he then demanded that the minority leader should also be stopped if there was not enough time.
Some presenters of the local FM station expressed displeasure with the Regional Minister’s intrusion into the programme, which was paid for. The regional capital - Wa is however calm contrary to earlier reports that suggested a tension-filled atmosphere as supporters of the NDC and NPP were reportedly massing up at the radio station for a show down.
