Regional Minister advises students against strikes

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr S.K. Boafo, on Thursday reminded students that 'Aluta' and other forms of strike action impacted negatively on their desire to aspire to higher academic heights.

Addressing students and staff of the Akrokerri Training College on Wednesday as part of his two-day working visit to Adansi West District, he said "Time would not wait for you." and urged the students to respect authority and also work harder to enable them to become efficient teachers in future.

Mr Boafo, who stated that he was satisfied with the clean compound as well as the serene atmosphere of the college, added: "The college is a place you can study."

He said the Adansi West District Assembly would offer sponsorship to 80 teacher trainees this year.

The Regional Minister promised to provide 500 plastic chairs to augment those at the college's assembly hall and directed the District Chief Executive, Mr Joe Boampong to see to its supply.

Mr J.K. Asare, the Principal, promised that the college would produce competent and resourceful teachers but said insufficient staff bungalows, the lack of college truck and reactivation of the abandoned 12-unit classroom block were impeding academic work.

The Principal commended the students for maintaining high standards of discipline.
