Rehabilitated Airport Police Station handed over

Accra, May 26, GNA - The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Alhaji Ismail Saaka on Wednesday handed over the rehabilitated Airport Police Station and District Police Office to the District Commander; Chief Superintendent Charles Tokor.

Trasacco Estate Development Company rehabilitated the structures that had developed serious cracks following earth tremors about seven years ago, free of charge under its social responsibility programme. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Alhaji Saaka expressed the Police Administration's appreciation to the support given by civil society and organisations to the Service in its bid to maintain law and order in the country.

He said the Government was doing its best to provide the needs of the Police Service but budgetary constraints had made it difficult, adding that such an assistance from a civil society organisation was very refreshing and called on others to emulate Trasacco. Mr Ernest Taricone, Chairman of the Company, said the Company was inspired to assist the Police because of the strategic role it played. He said the Company was proud to have been offered the opportunity to contribute to the nurturing of an efficient Police Service able to protect life and property at any given time.

Chief Superintendent Tokor noted that until the rehabilitation the structures were more of death traps with huge cracks in the walls, adding that the cells also used to get flooded anytime it rained heavily.
