Our attention has been drawn to the headline story of The Enquirer of Wednesday 16th - Thursday 17th April 2008, captioned: ‘AKUFO-ADDO’S LONDON CASH FIASCO.’
We wish to state that Nana Akufo-Addo did not go to London to raise funds for his campaign nor did he address the West African Business Association for that purpose.
The West African Business Forum and the Southern Africa Business Forum (WABA/SABF) invited Nana Akufo-Addo, the Presidential Candidate of Ghana’s largest political party, to address them jointly on his vision for the private sector, which is premised on the transformation of the Ghanaian economy. That was exactly what he went there to do and that was exactly what he did.
It may also be necessary to remind The Enquirer that Akufo-Addo is the candidate for a party, which believes in free enterprise. Therefore, the WABA/SABF, recognising this, invited him to share his vision with them. It was for a similar reason that the Business Section of the Nigerian Bar Association invited the NPP Presidential Candidate to their annual conference in Abuja last month to articulate his vision on regional integration.
We hope our rejoinder would serve its purpose of enlightening the Enquirer and its readers on the purpose of Nana Akufo-Addo’s invitation from WABA/SABF.
Signed,
Mustapha Hamid (Spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo)
