The LPG Marketing Companies Association of Ghana wants government to release the full investigative report into the gas explosions that hit two fuel stations at Atomic Junction months ago.

“It is through our activities that this unfortunate incident happened, so if the state had been able to put a committee together to look into these issues and it has concluded its report on the incident, it’s meaningful that a Press conference be held to release the full details of the investigation and the recommendations thereof, so that you don’t give room for any speculation,” the Vice-Chairman of the Association, Gabriel Kumi, said in an interview with sit-in host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

The LPG marketing companies are being pushed to the brink of extinction following the gas cylinder re-circulation policy, introduced by government as a measure to curtail the spate of explosions in the country .

LPG marketers are thus agitated over the implementation of the program billed to take off soon. The policy among other gas-related policies are being considered following the Atomic Junction Gas explosion that killed seven people and injured over 100 others.

Per the policy, all gas cylinders will be filled by cylinder bottling plants for onward delivery to retail outlets instead of the LPG outlets, to improve safety of LPG as well as increase access.

But, according to the Vice President of the LPG Marketing Companies Association of Ghana, the decision to phase out their role in the new regime, despite their relevance as the major player in the industry is an absurdity.

“Our main role has been shredded into pieces, while they claimed they’re going to give it a different license regime. Secondly they’ve left us out completely in the new policy which is of a major concern to us,because it’ll risk our survival in the business,” he argued.

He said the Association will hold a Press conference on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 to pour their concerns and the decisions they’ll be taking in the interim to resolve their issues with the regulator.
