The Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has urged religious bodies to support the government in fighting vices in the society.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said, religious bodies must regard the government as a partner in fighting evils and cooperate with it.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf at a ceremony to elevate the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Gomoa to a district status.

He said if the government and religious bodies especially churches towed different lines in fighting crimes, things would get out of hand; and appealed to churches to intensify their preaching on peace to ensure that the peace the nation was enjoying was not disrupted.

He commended the church on its elevation to a district status and assured of the Assembly’s support in the discharge of its duties.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said he was happy that the church’s elevation to a district status coincided with the elevation of the church in Central Region to Mid-South Ghana Field.

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Apam was the first to be established in the then Gold Coast in 1898 by one Francis Dawson, but became defunct some years later. It was re-established by Pastor P.K. Asare in 1980.**
