Replace propaganda with proper agenda – Citizen Kofi to politicians

The pioneer of remittance services to Africa, Dr Kofi Amoah, who is better known as Citizen Kofi, has admonished politicians to jettison the old and tired strategy of using propaganda to win elections and instead focus on a proper agenda aimed at improving the lot of every citizen.

According to Dr Amoah, Ghanaians have become aware of the various shenanigans governments have used in the past to keep them in a haze, and thus propaganda will no longer hold sway on the electorates.

In a lengthy post on his verified X account, Dr Amoah accused some politicians, like Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of making several promises that have not been fulfilled after almost eight years in government.

“During the 2016 electioneering campaigns, Bawumia made exaggerated and unfounded economic theories, for example: If the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you. Today, with the sharpest depreciation of the Cedi in the history of the country, he has had to invent other spurious economic theories to camouflage his party’s disastrous economic fundamentals that have bankrupted the nation, inflation and excruciating joblessness. The lesson here is that let the political contestants concentrate on what solutions they can apply to rescue Ghana’s bankrupt economy and not spend all their time on propaganda that they think can help them win the election… Any such strategy will be like winning a battle and losing the war,” he wrote.

Kofi Amoah posits that without real solutions, any government that comes to power in 2025 will only enjoy a honeymoon period of six months to one year before citizen unrests and agitations take centre stage.

“The next govt that does not come with commonsensical solutions that the population can believe in and support will only enjoy a honeymoon period of about 6 months, a maximum of one year before they become a lame duck, an unpopular govt with possible street demonstrations,” he added.

Dr Amoah believes Ghanaians can tell if a leader means well for the country and will lend their support if they can see a real effort to change their dire socio-economic problems. He also said there are a lot of easy solutions to take Ghana out of its current quagmire.

“Fortunately, there are viable and low-hanging fruit solutions that we must focus on to distil and sharpen for immediate implementation come January 2025. Let’s Replace PROPAGANDA with PROPER-AGENDA. IT’S POSSIBLE," he wrote.

Ghana will go to the polls in December to elect a new leader, with the current president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo exhausting his tenure in office.

Critical issues such as joblessness, cedi depreciation, Inflation and corruption have become critical questions begging for answers from politicians.
