Report any irregularities to BNI - NADMO

Takoradi, Oct. 29, GNA - The Western Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr Japhet Baidoo, has called on the residents of towns along Ghana's border with La Cote d' lvorie to be vigilant, in the wake of the forthcoming election in that country, scheduled for October 30, 2010. He has also urged the residents to report any strange activities in their localities to the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Mr Baidoo who made the call in an interview with the GNA, added that a committee made up of NADMO, Ministry of the Interior and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, had already toured some parts of the Western Region with a particular focus on the areas bordering the two countries.

He said NADMO was also looking at possible sites for refugees camps and noted that the authorities were carefully monitoring the situation in the neighbouring country.

"We are looking at reviewing our contingency plans for quick response should the need arise" he stated. Mr Baidoo explained that there had been a recent training workshop for officials of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service, as well as other security agencies. He expressed the hope that the people of La Cote d' Ivoire would ensure that their elections would be free and fair and devoid of troubles. 29 Oct. 10
