Reshuffle: Bawumia needs help – Krapah

Government’s spokesperson on legal and governance affairs, Herbert Krapah has justified the creation of a new portfolio at the office of the Vice President.

Announcing his maiden reshuffle on Thursday, President Akufo-Addo created a new portfolio where the former Zongo and Inner City Development Minister, Boniface Abubakar Sidiq, is to act as Minister of State at the office of the Vice President.

Many have criticized this decision stating it is irrelevant, unnecessary and a waste of tax payer’s money.

But government’s spokes person on legal and governance affairs, Herbert Krapah says there are lots of work on the desk of the Vice President that needs more hands to assist.

“You know that, the presidency itself and the office of the Vice President have become very overloaded with a lot of work. If you look at the Vice President, Dr Bawumia has a lot on his table so if a minister has been assigned to his office, it just tells you that the veep has a specific mandate for this minister.”

He said the President would not have moved a minister from his ministry to the office of the Vice President if there was no need.

Herbert Krapah further shot down claims that the reshuffle is a sign that President Akufo-Addo was dissatisfied with the performance of the ministers at their previous portfolios.

“People that have been moved to other places are supposed to drive certain agenda to help the President achieve a certain mandate. So at anytime the President feels a person’s competence is needed at a place he can move that person there to execute a particular plan,” he said.
