Residents at Berekum resist demolition of structures

Ghettos in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region to be demolished Ghettos in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region to be demolished

Some angry residents at Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region are up in arms against the Assemblyman and opinion leaders over a decision to demolish some ghettos suspected to be occupied by wee smokers and criminals.

The sale and use of wee which is originally known as marijuana, is making it uncomfortable for residents, leaders have said.

However, the occupants in these ghettos have vowed to resist the demolition claiming it is not the solution to ending the sale and use of wee and other hard drugs.

One of the occupants [name withheld] told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that authorities should rather focus on creating jobs for the unemployed youth than demolish ghettos.

He said, ‘’this not the solution to the problem. If you demolish the ghetto, you will not take the land away. The boys will still come and smoke or buy marijuana.’’

One other occupant said, the demolition is much I do about nothing because the ghettos are not used for criminal activities as alleged by some people.
