Some residents of Kokomlemle, a suburb in Accra defied the social distancing order as fire ravaged a house in their vicinity Wednesday morning.

Despite President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive that Ghanaians should maintain social distancing after lifting the lockdown, tens of people stood on the streets of Kokomlemle to catch a glimpse of the fire which started around 11:00 am.

Most people in the crowd were without nose masks and standing close to each other on the streets as they watched how personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service worked tirelessly to quench the fire.

Officials of the Ghana Police Service who later came to the scene failed to dismiss the crowd and went on with their job.

Some by-passers who were worried about the number of people on the street expressed their disgust about the situation.

The fire ravaged two out of three rooms attached to each other on the compound as well as a kitchen.

According to an eyewitness, the fire was started by some children who were playing with matches in one of the rooms.
