Fear gripped residents of Atimatim in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region after they woke up Tuesday morning to what appears to be a strange totem placed on a portion of land in the area.

Objects including the burnt head of a goat, a knife, a pot and a red piece of cloth among other things lay on wooden structure in the ground on a piece of land said to belong to the ancestors of the Atimatim area the morning of Wednesday as residents prepared for the day’s activities.

According to occupants of the area, there has been tension between themselves and the people of Kodee also in the Ashanti Region over a supposed land dispute. They claim a piece of land in the area which belongs to them is being coveted by these people who want to use it for a police post.

Some residents recounted an incident four years ago where the people from the Kodee township came with some police personnel to inspect the land which according to them was government property; this resulted in a confrontation as tempers flared.

The terrified residents called for authorities to intervene adding that they have halted their daily activities for fear of “something bad” happening should they get close to the objects.

“It has really frightened us, I am a carpenter and my shop is around this thing, I have not been able to go to work because I am afraid something bad could happen….one resident said in an interview.

“We don’t know what it is, we are very scared, we don’t know if it is these people who brought it here or not, we are pleading that the appropriate authorities do something or else we'll all end up dying”, another stated.
