Residents of Prampram participate in late president’s funeral

Residents of Prampram, in the Ningo-Prampram District on Friday converged at the District Assembly grounds to participate in the nationwide funeral service of the late President John Atta Mills.

The town was extremely quite as majority of the residents either joined the ceremony at the District Assembly or watched the national burial ceremony on television.

The widow of the late president Mills, Dr Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills hails from Prampram.

Mr. Samuel Andoh, Coordinating Director of the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency at Prampram that the funeral ceremony started with vigil services in 20 communities of the district on Thursday.

Mr. Andoh said residents in the communities participated in the ceremonies which saw the display of cultural displays, among others from Thursday evening to the early hours of Friday.

He said Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, the Prampram Traditional Council and the Assembly jointly organized the vigil and funeral ceremonies in appreciation to the late President for marrying from Prampram.

He appealed to the government to fulfill the late president’s vision for the country which he believed was inspired by Mrs Mills.

At Dawhenya, also in the same district, residents sang and danced to observe the funeral service in memory of the late president.

Mr. Gabriel Appertey, Assembly Member for the North Dawhenya Electoral Area said the service was organized by all the political parties in the town to thank the late President for his good exemplary leadership.**
