Resist personality attacks – Nana tells Greenstreet

Nana Akufo-Addo - NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo - NPP flagbearer

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised the newly elected presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party to focus on issues-based campaign.

Nana Akufo-Addo, in a congratulatory message to Ivor Greenstreet, said the CPP must resist any form of “personality attacks” and campaign based on issues that will enhance the democracy of Ghana.

“With Ghanaians eager for an issues-based campaign from all political parties and candidates, it is my hope that Ivor Greenstreet and the CPP will contribute to the shaping of the political discourse, from one of personality attacks to a competition of programmes, policies and ideas. This will help to reinforce the peace and stability of our nation,” the three-time flagbearer of the NPP said.

Ivor polled 1,288 votes of the 1,992 valid votes to beat his former chairperson, Samia Nkrumah who came second with 579 votes in the Saturday polls of the Nkrumahist party. The others were Joseph Agyapong – 83 and Bright Akwetey 42 votes.

Akufo-Addo also congratulated the failed candidates, who have also declared their support for the former General Secretary of the party.

“This is to congratulate Ivor Kobina Greenstreet on his election as presidential candidate of the Conventions Peoples’ Party for the 2016 elections. I also congratulate Samia Nkrumah, Joseph Agyapong and Bright Akwettey for their pledge of support for Mr. Greenstreet.”

Ghana will be heading to the polls on November 7, 2016 to elect a new president and parliamentarians.
