Accra, Dec 1, GNA- Dr. Kofi Asare, Member of Parliament for Akwatia on Tuesday appealed to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to facilitate the restoration of electricity to the Akwatia Diamonds Company hospital which was disconnected on Monday November 30. He said the disconnection of electricity at the facility would not only create a health disaster, but would also deepen the plight of workers of the facility who were already distressed.
Dr. Asare said these in a press statement copied to members of the Parliamentary Press Corps at Parliament House on Tuesday. He said the Ghana Diamonds Consolidated Company which had been listed on the divestiture for some time now was indebted to other Companies Millions of Cedis and the disconnection of electricity at the hospital would affect health delivery in the area.
The Akwatia MP said the GCD which once served as the major employment hub for so many people from all walks of life was now on its knees as it had not been able to pay the salaries of its workers for the past five months. He appealed to the Minister to expedite action on the divestiture of the Company so as to give a ray of hope to the workers and all those who benefitted from the operations of the company. 1 Dec. 09
