Return Seized Items After Nkrumah's Overthrow -CPP

The main umbrella grouping of followers of the ideals of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the Conventions People Party (CPP) says it would soon petition government for the return its assets seized after the overthrow of the first republic. The party has therefore appealed to all former members of the party who have vital documents on such assets in their possession to send them to the leadership of the party.

"In the spirit of national reconciliation, we hope the government will respond and act favourably.” The national chairman of the party, Dr Abubakar Alhassan made this known at Bolgatanga in the Upper-East region.

He noted that the party’s decision to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run-off of the 2000 elections was based on national interest, which had started paying off. The CPP says even though it holds different political ideologies, its decision to back the NPP against the National Democratic Congress in the election is yielding results to its advantage.

This, Dr Alhassan said has brought together the fragmented Nkrumahist parties towards unity to win the year 2004 elections. "We have the brightest opportunity to put our house in order, to organise and win the next elections now that the NDC is no more in power".
