Return to the fold; Candidate-elect appeals to fellow Nkrumaists

Kumasi, May 18, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) parliamentary candidate-elect for the Subin constituency in the Kumasi metropolis, has made a passionate appeal to all Nkrumaists who for one reason or the other left the CPP, to return to the fold to get a formidable party to win the December polls.

Speaking after he was elected unopposed at the weekend, Mr Godfred K. Appiah said this was the time for Nkrumaists to present a united front to win back power.

Mr Appiah, who was the Ashanti Regional chairman of the CPP in 2000, called for unity among the rank and file of supporters of the party to campaign vigorously for victory in December.

He, however, cautioned them to refrain from violent campaigns to ensure peaceful elections, adding that they should comport themselves even in the face of extreme provocation.

Mr Appiah, who stood on the ticket of the National Independence Party (NIP) in the 1992 elections which was boycotted by the opposition and the candidate for the People's Convention Party (PCP) in 1996 during which the party formed the great alliance with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged the constituency executives to intensify their campaign to enable the party win the parliamentary seat in the constituency. He also appealed to his supporters and sympathisers, including those who were not in the CPP to throw their weight behind him to win the seat, pointing out that he was born and bred in the Subin constituency and therefore knew their problems better and therefore in a better position to solve them.

Mr Kofi Addo-Brakatu, the Ashanti Regional propaganda secretary of the CPP, said being a welfare party, the CPP thinks about the people and so if it is voted into power, the party will tackle the unemployment situation confronting the youth in particular.

He said in order to realise this; the party has the intention of revamping some of the abandoned factories some of which are in Kumasi and had been placed on divestiture to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth if voted into power.
