It has come to light that it was the intention of the Akufo Addo Government to rename the University of Energy and Natural Resources after K.A Busia and not the doing of the Governing Council of the university as the government had claimed.
In an intercepted letter by MyNewsGh.com signed by the registrar, Solomon Panford, inviting representatives of the Wenchi Traditional Council and the Sofoase Yefri to the 4th Congregation, it is revealed that it was the intention of the Government to rename the university in honour of K.A. Busia.
The letter reads :”…We have been directed by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana to inform the Wenchi Traditional Council of the government’s intention to rename the University of Energy and Natural Resources after your illustrious son, Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia on the occasion of the 4th Congregation of the University… “
Government communicators and the Governing Council itself had put out information to the effect that the renaming of the University was the decision of the University’s Governing Council after many Ghanaians expressed outrage over the ‘pointless’ renaming of public universities after persons linked to the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP).
The opposition National Democratic Congress( NDC) has accused the government of seeking to revise history by projecting founding fathers of the New Patriotic Party.
