Revenue collector collects GHC 10 a month but receives full salary

Koforidua, June 30, GNA - Ms Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) has expressed worry about the low productivity of some revenue collectors and urged them to buck up. She was, particularly, not happy about a situation where a collector collected only GHC 10 in a whole month but took his full salary for the period.

Ms Koomson who was interacting with revenue collectors at Akyem Oda, on Wednesday, urged them to work extra hard to enable the assembly to generate enough revenue to finance projects.

She reminded the collectors that the assembly's capacity to get a bigger share of the District Assembly Common Fund depended to a large extent depended on their ability to raise enough Internally Generated Fund. Ms Koomson, therefore, challenged them to be committed to their work, adding that the assembly would not hesitate to terminate the appointment of the "lazy ones."

She urged them to work without fear or favour, assuring them that the assembly would stand solidly behind them in the discharge of their duties. The MCE advised them to educate the traders on the need to pay their market tolls and other levies regularly and also to have good relations with them.

She, however, urged the revenue collectors not to hesitate to report traders who would stand in their way in the discharge of their duties to the assembly for the necessary action to be taken. During an open forum, it came to light that some of the revenue collectors were staying far away from their areas of operation and was thus affecting their performances. Ms Koomson, therefore, urged those collectors to take steps to find accommodation at their places of work to enhance their operations. 30 June 10
