Rlg Telecommunication, a subsidiary of RLG Communications Limited in collaboration with the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has presented setup kits to beneficiaries of the Rlg youth in mobile phone repairs initiative.
The 1,300 youth in the Greater Accra Region were part of the 7,134 youth who formed the last batch of trainees who underwent training in ICT for six months in introduction to computers, mobile phones soft and hardware, basic electronics and entrepreneurship skills.
Mr Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment and to demonstrate high level of professionalism and discipline in their field of work.
Mr Agbo said the ceremony would stimulate development in their endeavors since it would complement government’s efforts in providing the youth with jobs and contribute to socio-economic development.
Mr Emmanuel Arthur, Corporate Affairs Manager for Rlg Communications said the presentation was part of the promise made to the beneficiaries at the graduation ceremony in August 2012 as part of their business processes to earn a living.
He said the Rlg Company employs over 1,500 permanent staff at its installations in Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia and China and looked forward to engaging 30,000 youth in its assembly plant after the expansion of the project.
Mr Arthur said the company in collaboration with government would train 30,000 youth nationwide in the next phase of the Youth in ICT module to offer an opportunity in job creation.
He stressed that under the next phase of the module, more youth would be trained in both mobile phone repairs and computer assembling to constitute a significant base for the Enterprise Project intended to make young people economically viable and independent.
Mr Solomon Nii Afutu Quartey, Regional Director of GYEEDA said a monitoring team had been put in place to supervise the activities of beneficiaries in their line of businesses and ensure the equipment was used for the intended purposes.
Mr Quartey said GYEEDA focused on entrepreneurial development programmes to empower the youth, hence the change of name from National Youth Employment Programme to GYEEDA.
He said the transformation also aimed at coordinating all youth employment and youth entrepreneurial development activities with the public and private sectors to ensure value delivery.
Mr Quartey added that GYEEDA focused on developing the talents of youth who could not enter into higher institutions which introduced the Asongtaba Cottage Industry, a private company which specializes in creating job opportunities for the youth in the field of dressmaking and creative arts.
