A member of the Prof John Evans Attah Mills 2004 Campaign Team, Mr Rojo Mettle Nunnoo, has decided to sue the Daily Guide Newspaper and the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service over his alleged involvement in a cocaine deal.
According to him the publication was done to discredit him and shift attention from his on-going legal battles with the electoral commission over the continued refusal by the electoral commission to gazette the 2004 election.
The Daily Guide Newspaper reported today (see article below) that the NDC scribe was arrested in connection with a 38 million cocaine deal late last year.
Speaking on Daybreak Kapital this morning, Mr. Mettle Nunnoo noted that he believes the police leaked the information to the paper to dent his hard won reputation.
He explained that sometime ago, he used to assist the two Venezuelans at the heart of the deal to enable them do business in Ghana. He denied ever being arrested by the police saying he was only invited to explain his relationship with the Venezuelans
Rojo Mettle-Nunoo busted over $38m cocaine haul
Daily Guide -- Head of Communication at the Atta Mills campaign office, Kuku Hill Osu, was arrested on Thursday in connection with a $38 million cocaine haul at East Legon, reports the Daily Guide. He was however granted bail later on the same day.
A source at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) told the paper that Rojo was invited for questioning after his name was mentioned by two Venezualans, Joel Mella 35 and Italo Cabeza Castillo, 38 who were arrested in connection with the $38 million cocaine haul at East Legon on November 27, 2005.
Five hundred and eighty-eight pieces of wrapped pellets, suspected to be cocaine were found concealed in paper boxes in two rooms with a gross weight of 580 kilogrammes valued at $38 million.
The two suspects and one other who is on the run own a company call Compimchis, which deals in ladies underwear at Osu in Accra, whilst Rojo Mettle Nunoo is the deputy director and advisor to the company.
The police are said to beholding an appointment letter indicating that Rojo Mettle Nunoo is a deputy advisor of the company.
Mr Nunoo has denied any complicity with the two Venezuelans and also being the deputy director of the company.
The police CID says they believe the sale of women underwear by the company is a cover up for their illicit dealings.
According to the police CID source, one Geraldo Vasgues is the kingpin of the $38m drug and a wide net hunt has begun for his arrest.
Efforts by the Daily Guide to speak with Mr Mettle Nunoo for his side of the story could not materialize.
The paper said it got in touch with deputy campaign manager of Prof Atta Mills, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the personal assistant of the Professor, Ludwig Hlodze, Captain Clend Sowu, deputy general secretary, Baba Jamal and MP for Asutifi South, Alhaji Collins Dauda, but all these people either said they did not have the number of Mr Nunoo?s cell phone or his phone is having problems.
