District 9100 of the Club of Rotary Club at Achimota in Accra has donated books worth 10 million cedis to the Anyako Junior and Senior secondary schools at Anyako in the Keta District.
Dr Victor Dzokoto, President, who made the donation on behalf of the Club said Rotary Club International, which is non-profit making was devoted to the improvement of health including humanitarian and hunger support services as well as education and environment centred projects to promote the welfare of humanity.
Dr Dzokoto praised the leadership role of Togbe Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VI, Dufia of Anyako and Fiaga of Amugo Wego Traditional Area, whose distress call to the club resulted in the offer to the schools.
He said education is a prime tool for development and expressed the hope that the students would make use of the variety of books donated to them.
Mr Fredrick Kpodo, Headmaster of the Anyako, Anlo Awomefia (AAA) Senior Secondary School, receiving the books, said the school lacked essential infrastructure and was still being accommodated in swish buildings constructed in 1932.
Mr Kpodo appealed to benevolent institutions like the Rotary Club to assist the school to be better accommodated and equipped with computers as well as a library.
Togbe Gligui said the schools were dear to the heart of Anyako citizens and that efforts to modernise the schools would continue to be made with external support when available.
