Canteen Project
Thus in the 2016/17 Rotary Year, Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu has carried out various projects including the Refurbishment of a Canteen block for the Dzorwulu A&B Primary School.
The Canteen which was commissioned recently and handed over to the school authority, was in a very deplorable state, with an unhygienic environment not conducive for the children of the school to use.
The Canteen floor had deep cracks which was resurfaced; painting done, with louvres and mosquito nets replaced, caret laid, and plumbing works fixed, as well as provided sinks for the kids to wash their hands.
The compound which was water-logged was excavated and filled with sand, stone and concrete, with gutter dug to give passage to rain water; giving a befitting status for the school children to use.
The Rotary club invested an amount of GH¢9,627.00 to refurbish the facility before handing over to the school.
It will be recalled that The Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu has adopted the Primary School and has mapped up a sustainable projects for the past three years Some of the projects earlier undertaken includes the painting and donation of books to the school’s library, construction of a Zebra Crossing on the nearby street to aid the school kids of easy crossing over to their school.
Last Rotary Year, the club built a two-classroom unit for the Kindergarten pupils who previously did not have a decent classroom for academic activities.
The club has also earlier this Rotary Year carried out clean-up exercise in the school and donated litter bins to ensure the improvement of sanitation in the school’s compound.
Prior to commissioning of the Canteen Project, the Club mounted the Rotary Four-Way Test sign post in the school compound which according to the President of the club RP Joe Ampem-Darko Antwi, it is meant to educate and inculcate best practices among the children as they study the test of the things they think, say or do.
Present at the handing over ceremony was the Head Mistress of the school Mrs. Joyce Nana Simons, the Assembly woman of Dzorwulu Hon Rebecca Agyei Serwa, The Circuit Supervisor of Ghana Education Service Mr. Kwame Adzudzor, Staffs of Amadi Company, Head teachers from other schools in the Dzorwulu community and some members of the Accra-Dzorwulu Rotary Club.

Cleft Lip & Palate Project
In another development, one of the key projects The Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu carried out was to help raise funds to pay for surgeries for children with Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) in selected communities across the country whose parents could not afford the surgeries. Working in collaboration with the Graft Foundation, the club has so far presented an amount of GH¢20,000 to the Graft Foundation.
At the Presidential Ball held earlier in the Rotary Year, the President of the club RP Ampem-Darko pledged to raise adequate funds to pay for kids who have various degrees of CLP, in order to put a smile on their faces. So far, five beneficiaries have been cured of the CLP problem and are recovering, while the club promises to raise more funds to enable other kids to have their surgeries done.
On a visit to the Dodowa District Hospital where some of the patients were undergoing treatment, Dr. Kwame Abrokwaa Yankyera and Dr. Brainerd Anane of the Graft Foundation expresses their selfless desire to help the kids with Cleft Lip and Palate whose parents cannot afford a surgery to correct the anomaly bedeviled their kids.
It is a known fact that some children who have CLP disorders are ostracized in communities they come from; some are abused and in some cases killed for being bad omen to the community.
Parents of these kids and the kids are traumatized and their situation is unpleasant. That is why the Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu elected to raise funds to support the cause of putting back smile on the faces of kids, and also to help with sensitizing Ghanaians not to look down on people with such deformities.

Message from the President of Rotary Club of Accra Dzorwulu – RP Joe Ampem-Darko Antwi
This Rotary Year 2016/17 has been full of events and challenges. At the beginning of the year, and during a Presidential Ball, our club set a target to raise about GH¢100,000 to carry out its projects.
This was to be achieved with members’ support and contribution as well as corporate donations and partnerships. However, we could not achieve our targets as was expected.
Our satisfaction though is that at least we are able to assist some individuals and communities who have been in need of the things we sought to provide them with.
We are taking the opportunity to make further appeal to corporate organizations and individuals who are blessed financially to help assist deprived communities and or need people and institutions to have a better living.
For us at Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu, we will continue to give off our best to support and urge all others to come to the table with us.
