Rotary clubs in Ghana and Nigeria undertake community service

As part of efforts to strengthen international understanding, build goodwill and peace as well as bridge cultural differences, members of the Rotary Club of Accra East (Ghana) undertook a 3-day community service visit to the Rotary Club of IKOYI Metropolitan as they undertook 3 Joint Projects in 3 days from Friday, 17th February, 2017 to Sunday 19th February, 2017.

The Projects were in the areas of Basic Education and Literacy, Maternal and Child Health & Disease Prevention and Treatment.

The first in the series of projects was a donation of litter bins and some educational materials to the Iretidolu Senior Secondary School in Nigeria. The President of the Rotary Club of IKOYI Metropolitan; ASP Florence Ayoola-Egbeyemi presenting the items to the school expressed the Rotary’s commitment to education.

She added that after a careful needs assessment, her club, and its partners-in-service found it expedient to undertake such a project. The Project Director of the Rotary Club of Accra-East, Ghana; Mr. Ibrahim Wuntah, stressed on the importance of cleanliness in educational institutions.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr.Alabin Kazeem expressed appreciation towards the gesture and urged members of the rotary club to hold on to their charity exercises.

The team also embarked on a cervical cancer screening exercise at the Obalende health centre where over 55 women were screened for cervical cancer at no cost and also educated on the causes and how to prevent the disease.



The doctor on duty Dr. Abimbola encouraged the beneficiaries to take steps in getting screened atleast once every two to three years.

They made some donation of litterbins to the Takwabay Community where the Community Council Members received the items led by their Baale of the community. They expressed their appreciation to the Two clubs and indicated that they were going to make sure the reason for the donation is met.



The President of the Rotaract Club of Accra-East; Ms Getrude Adzo Akpalu was full of praise for the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro for being a good host. She said her team from Ghana is ready to reciprocate the gesture extended to them by their Nigerian counterparts next year.

The 9 member delegation from Ghana led by Mr Ibrahim Wuntah and Ms GetrudeAdzoAkpalu comprised Dela Gomado, Esther Anobea Aferi, Beatrice AbenaOfosu, Michael Tagoe, Andrews Ofosuhene and Maame K Stephens all of the Accra East Rotary Club.
