Kade (E/R) Aug. 11, GNA - Mr Charles Lawrence Twumasi-Ankrah, former Kwaebibirem District Director of Education, has appealed to teachers in the rural areas to continue to render selfless and dedicated service to improve the standard of education in the country.
Mr Twumasi-Ankrah said pupils in schools in the rural areas were underprivileged since they lacked basic teaching aids like audio-visuals and libraries.
He said under such deprived circumstances much depended on the teacher and there was, therefore, the need to equip teachers in rural areas through workshops and seminars to enable them to impart the relevant knowledge to their pupils.
Mr Twumasi-Ankrah was speaking at a durbar held in his honour by the Kwaebibirem District Education Directorate at Kade.
He said teaching was a noble profession and teachers should accept posting to any part of the country as their contribution to the socio-economic development of the nation. He also advised teachers and parents to set good examples for children to copy.
Mr George Aboagye, Presiding Member of the Kwaebibirem District Assembly, on behalf of the District Chief Executive, thanked Mr Twum,asi-Ankrah for his great contribution to education, most especially for the books he had written to promote Akan literature.
He also commended him for promoting sports, culture and raising the academic standard in the District during his tenure of office. Barima Agyare Tenadu II, the newly installed Kadehene, also commended the retired Education Officer for imparting his rich experience to the younger generation.
He said, even though Mr Twumasi-Ankrah had left the teaching service, the District should continue to tap his experiences and appealed to him to make himself available when the need arose. Mrs Stella Narnor, Acting Director of Education in the District, on behalf of the teachers in the District presented parcels to the outgoing Director and urged him to continue to render selfless service to the country.
