Mr Kwesi Hutchful, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education has commended Helen Efua Impraim, a pupil of the Seventh Day Adventist Naylor Primary School, for winning this year’s World Malaria Day art competition.
He said Helen's achievement had brought a great honour to the metropolis and urged her to continue working hard for greater laurels, and urged other school children to emulate her shining example.
The Director of Education, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Tema on Thursday, said in all, 110 school pupils from basic four to six were selected from eleven schools in the Greater Accra Region for the national competition.
Out of this number, 32 pupils were short-listed of which three of them were awarded in Adenta during the World Malaria Day celebration, he explained.
St. Augustine’s Primary placed second while Frafraha Basic School won the third position.
Mr Hutchful said all three pupils were given laptops and exercise books donated by Sanofi, sponsors of the Malaria School Awareness Project.
He said over the past decade, the country had made major progress in the fight against malaria, a step he said must be sustained for the socio-economic development of the nation.
