SMC/PTA end workshop on maintenance of school's infrastructure

Obuasi, Aug. 19, GNA - Twenty School Management Committees (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) from the Kwabrafoso school community in the Obuasi Municipality, have ended a five-day capacity building workshop on school's management and infrastructure maintenance.

It was aimed at strengthening their capacity in the management of schools and builds a culture of maintenance of infrastructure needed to promote effective teaching and learning in the schools.

Topics treated included community behaviour and attitude towards sustained maintenance of school infrastructure, promoting culture of maintenance, enrolment and retention drive - the role of SMCs and PTAs and accountability and record keeping.

Mrs Beatrice Boakye-Ansah Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, who closed the workshop, noted that stakeholders in the child's education have a major role to play in ensuring that quality education delivery was achieved in the schools.

She said a number of activities went into achieving quality education delivery, which included the availability and proper maintenance of school infrastructural facilities.

The Municipal Director commended the participants for attending the workshop and hoped that the knowledge gained, especially in promoting culture of maintenance would be put into practice.

"You have demonstrated that you really care for the education of your kids. I want to assure you of my office's support and encouragement towards the promotion of quality basic education in your schools and the entire Municipality", she said.

Mrs Prempeh called for collaboration between SMCs, PTAs, the education directorate and the Municipal Assembly to further enhance educational performance in schools.

Mr Martin Owusu Adofo, the workshop prefect, praised the directorate for organizing the workshop, which he said, had served as an eye-opener to them in knowing their roles and responsibilities. "We have realized that all stakeholders in the child's education should have a role to play in achieving quality education delivery", he stressed.
