SOS! 100 Police Officers Starving at Elubo

About 100 personnel drawn from the Ghana Police detached to quell activities of rampaging refugees at Elubo border town in the Western Region have been left stranded and without food for the past few days.

According to a source, some of the personnel had to move from house-house in the area to beg for food, since they had not received any money from their authorities to cater for themselves.

The personnel, most of whom were drawn from the Striking Force Unit of the police service in Accra and the Western Region, are supposed to be given a meagre ?2,500 as feeding allowance, but that too, had not been received. The officers were detached to the area to forestall peace at the Elubo Border Town, where Refugees from Liberia and other African countries are being kept.

The refugees went on a rampage over the weekend, complaining of poor feeding conditions and inadequate facilities.

Meanwhile, the deputy IGP in charge of Operations, Dr. Kofi Kesse Manfo says arrangements are being made to get allowances to the personnel by close of today. He told PeaceFM that under normal circumstances, officers detached on emergency situations are given their allowances later on their return from duty.
