SSNIT pension scheme is disincentive - Kwabre teachers

Mamponteng (Ash), July 6, GNA - Teachers in the Kwabre district of Ashanti have stated that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) pension scheme is not only a big disincentive but also frustrating.

They said the scheme does not provide the needed security for old age and motivation to teachers to give of their best.

This was contained in a resolution sent to the President through the Kwabre District Chief Executive, Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, after a peaceful demonstration at Fawoade and Mamponteng on Tuesday to press home their demand for the restoration of CAP 30.

The over 1,300 demonstrators carried placards with the inscriptions: "Bring CAP 30 or improve the SSNIT pension", "Teachers have no future with SSNIT pension scheme", "SSNIT is deadly than AIDS", "No CAP 30 education falls" and "Commission or no commission teachers need CAP 30".

The resolution said teachers have realised that no positive response has come out from their numerous petitions and resolutions to governments from the PNDC days to date on the restoration of CAP 30 or an enhancement of the SSNIT scheme.
