The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has taken over the Management of Akomadan Tomato Project which covers over 2,000 hectares to boost production. Mr Benjamin Brefoh, Offinso District Chief Executive who announced this at an anti-bushfire educational rally at Akomadan said the increase in Tomato production in the area will make the siting of a Tomato processing and canning factory at Akomadan viable. Mr Brefo said revamping of the Akomadan Tomato Project will offer more employment opportunities for the youth. The Offinso District Assembly, he said, will provide funds and other credit facilities to about 100 youths in Akomada, who constitute youth in Agriculture Project, to undertake tomato production. Mr Owusu Agyemang, Offinso District Co-ordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said, Ghanaians should not wait for disasters to strike before soliciting for help. "The cost of resettlement and provision of relief items to disaster victims is so high that there is the need to take.preventive measures", he said. Mr Owusu Agyemang called for proper waste disposal management in Akomadan Town Council to avoid outbreak.of epidemics.
