Self-acclaimed founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, wants the leadership of the party to subject its former National Youth Organiser, Anthony Karbo, to the same disciplinary action being taken against him (Brobbey) for comments he believes are likely to put the NPP’s democratic credentials into disrepute.
According to him, the former youth leader publicly threatened to deal with him on an Accra-based commercial radio station, Adom FM, and, therefore, was not surprised when some hoodlums trooped to the party’s headquarters in an attempt to lynch him during and after his meeting with the party’s disciplinary committee last Friday.
Democracy, according to Tarzan, is the epitome of the NPP and, therefore, wonders why someone will want to physically attack another for daring to openly express his thoughts on matters affecting a party he helped to formed.
“Anthony Karbo, on your sister station threatened that he will meet me (Tarzan) in Nima. I heard the interview on your station (Asempa and Adom FM), and I will submit a copy of his interview to the disciplinary committee. I will also make copies available to radio stations to play so everyone will hear him. A democratic party, which everyone can share his or her views afore, has now curved to be violent,” he told Asempa FM in an interview
Scores of NPP activists were said to have besieged the headquarters of the NPP last Friday, ostensibly to mob Dr Wereko-Brobbey. But for the intervention of the Greater Accra Regional Commander and the Nima Police Commander, DSP Francis Ayesu, the clearly livid NPP supporters would have had their way.
Dr. Wereko-Brobbey condemned the behavior of the NPP youth outrightly, adding that such actions should not be tolerated by the party leadership.
“If the disciplinary committee wants someone to sack from the party, they should sack Anthony Karbo for organizing such a thing against me. He should leave the party because that is not the character of the NPP…,” he stated.
“Anthony Karbo pretends to like the party but is rather tarnishing the image of the party. Do you remember what he (Karbo) said prior to the 2012 elections about NPP? He said they don’t respect any law and will deal with anybody in their own way. Is that the root of the NPP?
The outspoken NPP leading member vowed not to shut up, but will continue to speak the truth even if some other party members do not share the same sentiments with him.
