Sack EC’s legal team – NCCE

The Ashanti regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Yakubu Alhassan is calling for the disbandment of the Electoral Commission’s legal team.

According to him, the current legal team of the EC led by Mr Quashie Idun appears weak and inefficient.

The attack on the legal team of the Commission follows a Supreme Court ruling last Friday February 27, 2015 which declared the district level election unconstitutional, compelling the EC to suspend activities towards the March 3 poll.

The court further ordered the EC to re-demarcate electoral boundaries for the elections, in accordance with CI 85.

The decision was taken after a fisherman petitioned the court following the EC’s refusal to accept his nomination.

His disqualification was premised on late submission of his nomination forms.

Commenting on the development on the Ultimate Breakfast show with host Prince Minkah Monday, the NCCE boss said the EC’s legal team must be “done away with immediately”

“I think that the legal department of the EC should all be done away with because they didn’t advise the chairman of the EC very well.

“Even during the court proceedings, their lawyer was fumbling and citing different laws here and there which weren't enough to support this year’s elections,” he lamented.
