Polling Station officers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency have called for the immediate removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Beatrice Serwaah-Derkyi, from office for non-performance and pettiness.
They said she “has left nobody in doubt that she does not have what it takes to lead and bring development to the people, as she cannot lay claim to a single achievement”.
A press statement signed by 20 of the polling station executives also accused the MCE of consistent political misjudgment and being divisive and said these were a huge bother.
“It does not look good as many are increasingly becoming upset and disappointed.”
They added that the woman was ungenerous in trifling things, threatening public officers with transfers and behaving like the assembly and the party were her private business.
They made reference to her locking up of the municipal office of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) just because “she claims the man appointed as Project Assistant opposed her nomination to the MCE position”.
She had continued to remain obstinate and would not unlock the office despite interventions by the Ashanti Regional Minister and the YEA National Coordinator.
“We find it deeply troubling her unswerving push to undermine the structures of the constituency party - the elected officers, by running parallel party structures.
They said they were of the firm conviction that appointment to any public office, more importantly should be about performance and service.
“Madam Serwaah-Derkyi is not the only person, who has been loyal to the NPP and we do not want to be lectured on what she did or did not do to bring the party to where it is today.”
“There are many people out there who fought in the trenches with the Most Reverend Dr. Samuel Asante-Antwi, the late Attakora Gyimah and others – regularly met at the K.O. Methodist School, to plan and nurture the political organization called the NPP but have not been rewarded with any political appointment.”
They insisted that “every member or supporter comes to the party with their own unique contributions”.
The contribution of the ‘small flies’ – foot soldiers, often at the “receiving end of savage beatings, who suffer cuts and broken bones during the time of elections, should not either be discounted or underestimated and they should not be disrespected”.
Madam Serwaah-Derkyi would not respond to the accusations and directed the reporter of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to talk to her Secretary.
